Thinking about painting? Read this first!

Choosing wall color is quite a task but the benefits of adding some new paint are endless; one of which being that its such a cost effective way to update and put your personal touch in a new and/or existing home.  I've been doing a lot of thinking on this whole bit about color... and I realize that color plays a huge part in the world of design.  Adding color to your walls can be quite daunting and a little intimidating, but I assure you EVERYTHING will be OK! The use of color, depending on the palette you choose, can really set the mood for your home, even to the point of evoking emotions, feelings, and thoughts within each space.  While I do recommend adding some bold color, I would steer away from using several completely different colors, as it can tend to hinder the flow of your home.  Your interior space should be viewed as a whole.  If you break up that whole into totally different colors, your house may seem fragmented with each space feeling totally separated from the rest of the house.  This in turn has the potential of leaving you and your guests feeling fragmented upon entering the space as well.

Choose a color palette that gives the look and feel you want to achieve then stick with 3-4 different complimenting paint colors that work well with each other to keep a good flow in your home as you travel from room to room.  If you want to incorporate an accent wall in a room I say go for it, but make sure that the bold color works with your original color palette keeping with the overall mood of your home.  I also recommend adding in a pop of color through the use of accessories, fixtures, textiles and fabrics to pull that bold accent color throughout the space.

Still feeling a bit unsure of choosing the right paint?  I suggest hiring a professional to help pick wall colors.  Paint consultations are actually quite reasonable and can really take a load off and help when embarking on such an important part of home renovation.  Spending a small amount on professional advice can save you a ton of time and money in the long run.

“Circumstances and situations do color life, but YOU have been given the mind to choose what the color shall be.” –John Homer Miller-
